The most recent transformations of criminal procedure have set the stage for the advent of the process governed by artificial intelligence. Quantitative efficiency, time contraction and resource saving, digitization, dematerialization and despatialization of acts, predictability of decisions, constraint of precedent, verticalization of jurisdiction, formalization of the logic of deciding, are not only the characteristic features of criminal procedure in recent years, but constitute the perfect breeding ground for the artificial process. If yet another dystopia is to be averted, action must be taken on this ground, reconsidering all the political ideological choices that inspired the reforms of the new millennium, for a return to the traditional values of procedural humanism.
