The FaTE joins the potential of interactive multimedia with the educational benefits of a "traditional" education/fun activity - story-listening and story-telling. FaTE is being developing a series of interactive multimedia titles (CD-ROMs) for kids from 5 to 8 years old, where interactive multimedia tales are integrated with educational games involving tale scenes and protagonists. In this paper, we present a field study carried on in an Italian elementary school with 45 kids from 5 to 7 years old, which aimed at exploring the educational benefits of using in small groups at schools the interactive multimedia tales developed in FaTE. The paper discusses the overall approach of the FaTE products, the design of our empirical study, and its main findings.
