One hundred years after the Gentile Reform, it is legitimate to ask whether it has been completely archived in its elitist and classist, conservative and statist, old humanist and anti-methodological matrix. The article discusses a historical-pedagogical reading which, while recognizing the changes that occurred in school policies over a century, identifies the influence of the Gentile (and nineteenth-century) style which is still alive, not so much for the strength of its structure, but for the weakness and partiality of the reforms implemented subsequently, with particular reference to upper secondary school.
