This essay deals with the editorial history and the reception of Struwwelpeter [Pierino Porcospino] in Italy. The analysis examines historical documents, literary texts and critical reflections developed over almost two centuries, and intends to show the ambiguity of Hoffmann’s work, seemingly exemplary for what concerns the 19th-century authoritarian and repressive bourgeois education but, at the same time, its deep, perhaps unconscious, critique.
Il presente saggio ha come oggetto la storia editoriale e la ricezione in Italia dello Struwwelpeter, il nostro Pierino Porcospino. L’analisi prende in esame documenti storici, testi letterari e riflessioni critiche sviluppatesi nell’arco di quasi due secoli e intende mostrare l’ambivalenza dell’opera di Hoffmann, apparentemente esemplare rispetto ai canoni dell’educazione borghese ottocentesca, autoritaria e repressiva, ma al tempo stesso sua intima, per quanto forse inconscia, critica.
