The Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) is a screening tool composed of 25 items that assess positive and negative aspects of the behavior in children and adolescents aged between 3 to 16 years. Despite its widespread diffusion in several countries around the world and the large number of research conducted, there are still a few studies that have tested the validity of the pre-school questionnaire. The purpose of this research work is to contribute to the validation of the Italian version of the SDQ questionnaire for children aged 3 to 5 years. The questionnaire was filled in by both parents and teachers of 508 children attending 13 Schools of Childhood in the municipality of Monza and Brianza and by the mothers of 89 children in a pediatric private office in Bergamo. The degree of agreement between mothers, fathers and teachers was evaluated, and psychometric analyses were carried out. Socio-demographic variables, such as gender, age of the children and the socio-economic status (SES) of the family were analyzed. The results show a high degree of agreement between the raters, especially among parents, higher scores of difficulties in males and younger children and significant correlations with SES, particularly with the mothers' level of study
