In this study, we introduce an innovative methodology for the fuzzy measurement of multidimensional subjective suffering, based on ordinal data. We apply the methodology to data about suffering in Italy for 2007 and 2010. The analysis reveals the existence of different suffering levels between north and south Italy and between men and women. Interestingly, the temporal dynamics of subjective suffering suggests that people living in more economically developed regions may find their self-perception to worsen across the beginning of the economic crisis.

Abstract
In this study, we introduce an innovative methodology for the fuzzy measurement of multidimensional subjective suffering, based on ordinal data. We apply the methodology to data about suffering in Italy for 2007 and 2010. The analysis reveals the existence of different suffering levels between north and south Italy and between men and women. Interestingly, the temporal dynamics of subjective suffering suggests that people living in more economically developed regions may find their self-perception to worsen across the beginning of the economic crisis.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
