The article analyses the effect of the crisis on the young immigrants in the Italian and in the Spanish labour markets, on the basis of a comparison with the young natives. Italy and Spain are interesting cases to discuss as they both represent the Mediterranean familistic model of welfare state and the South-European model of new immigration. Moreover, with the crisis, both countries have experienced a significant increase in the youth unemployment rates, more than in other countries. On the basis of Istat - Labour Force Survey microdata, elaborated by the authors, the article shows that in both countries the 25-34-year-old immigrants have peculiar features compared both to young natives and adult immigrants. Though, the different impact of the crisis on employment - dramatic in Spain, important but less severe in Italy – has had different consequences in the two countries both on the risk that young immigrants and natives run to be unemployed and on the jobs they are likely to have
