The chapter analyzes the methodological principles that characterize and define action research and discusses how these principles have been differently applied within the various approaches to action research. It is argued that these differences are due to different assumptions about the nature of reality and the possibility of the researcher to know this reality. These philosophical and epistemological assumptions also orient the different choices regarding the methods used for collecting and analyzing. Finally, the chapter discusses the issue of the validity of the research, indicating how it has been redefined by the different action research approaches

Abstract
The chapter analyzes the methodological principles that characterize and define action research and discusses how these principles have been differently applied within the various approaches to action research. It is argued that these differences are due to different assumptions about the nature of reality and the possibility of the researcher to know this reality. These philosophical and epistemological assumptions also orient the different choices regarding the methods used for collecting and analyzing. Finally, the chapter discusses the issue of the validity of the research, indicating how it has been redefined by the different action research approachesI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
