Italian teachers are not new to the task of involving parents: their attitudes and practices are the results of many years of debate, research and training on these issues. However, the increasing number of children of immigrants is challenging their taken for granted assumptions on how best to engage in dialogue with parents. In the presentation, through some examples from a research study that gave voice to teachers and parents in preschools in different Italian cities, we will discuss the need to sustain teachers in developing meaningful relationships with parents that involve listening and discussion on the means and the ends of educating young children.

Abstract
Italian teachers are not new to the task of involving parents: their attitudes and practices are the results of many years of debate, research and training on these issues. However, the increasing number of children of immigrants is challenging their taken for granted assumptions on how best to engage in dialogue with parents. In the presentation, through some examples from a research study that gave voice to teachers and parents in preschools in different Italian cities, we will discuss the need to sustain teachers in developing meaningful relationships with parents that involve listening and discussion on the means and the ends of educating young children.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
