This contribution explores the case of a street fight in an eastern Indonesian province in which pro-Palestine protesters clashed with a group of activists for indigenous religion. The event showcased how the Palestinian struggle is received through a web of polarising and religionising discourses in a seemingly distant context, such as that of eastern Indonesia, and how different and unexpected threads of solidarity are established locally. The article contextualises the clashes in the aftermath of the 2023 military escalation and proposes a reflection on indigeneity and its forms of transnational alliances. It shows how the long conflict in Palestine materialises in unanticipated ways once it enters the on-the-ground dynamics of interaction and cultural improvisation.

Abstract
This contribution explores the case of a street fight in an eastern Indonesian province in which pro-Palestine protesters clashed with a group of activists for indigenous religion. The event showcased how the Palestinian struggle is received through a web of polarising and religionising discourses in a seemingly distant context, such as that of eastern Indonesia, and how different and unexpected threads of solidarity are established locally. The article contextualises the clashes in the aftermath of the 2023 military escalation and proposes a reflection on indigeneity and its forms of transnational alliances. It shows how the long conflict in Palestine materialises in unanticipated ways once it enters the on-the-ground dynamics of interaction and cultural improvisation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
