This chapter explores the value of adopting a generational approach to analyse the transition from Feminism to gender studies. On the one hand, the generational approach brings into focus the dynamic nature of feminist knowledge—characterized by both continuity and transformation. Generational theories provide a helpful framework for exploring how different phases of the feminist movement—each shaped by the particular social, political, and intellectual contexts of their time—have contributed distinct theoretical approaches, methodological innovations, and strategic priorities to the field. It also sheds light on the dialogues between different phases Feminism, illustrating how feminist theory is constantly reshaped through processes of collaboration, critique, and reinvention. On the other hand, the generational framework serves as an important lens for tracing the historical development of gender studies within the wider history of feminist movements. It challenges the idea of linear progress by emphasizing the field’s evolution as a series of shifts, debates, and redefinitions that reflect changing priorities and perspectives over time. Rather than viewing gender studies as a departure from Feminism, the chapter argues that Feminism and gender studies are engaged in an ongoing, layered conversation—one that continually evolves through the contributions of successive generations.

Abstract
Rather than viewing gender studies as a departure from Feminism, the chapter argues that Feminism and gender studies are engaged in an ongoing, layered conversation—one that continually evolves through the contributions of successive generations.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
