This volume is intended to explore the intersection of organization studies (OS) and the medical humanities (MH) field, not as a mere speculative experiment but as an attempt to identify a fertile ground for rethinking the organization of health and healthcare systems. Both fields are animated by concerns with meaning, identity, ethics, and relationality, even if they have historically addressed these questions through different theoretical approaches and methodologies. What emerges from this dialogue is the recognition that healthcare organizations cannot be fully understood—or transformed—through biomedical or managerial rationalities alone (Macnaughton, 2011; Viney, Callard, & Woods, 2015). They must instead be approached as cultural, moral, and organizational systems in which professional practices, patient experiences, and systemic arrangements are intertwined.
