This article looks at the mask as an anthropopoietic technology acting in the space in-between created by wearing and removing the mask from the body. So the "mask" is so exceeded in the direction of "masking", focusing not only on the mask performance but more generally on the masking practices. Abandoned the prototypical stereotype of the facemask, the focus shifts to other kinds of "disguise" (usually not associated with the masks) expanding the repertoire of objects that can be collected under the "mask" label. Masking appears as a high transcultural practice disconnected from the presence / absence of masks in the strict sense, which are to be considered just one of the possible ways of masking. The result is a deconstruction of the masking effects produced by the anthropological and museological knowledge about masks.

Abstract
The result is a deconstruction of the masking effects produced by the anthropological and museological knowledge about masks.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
