Among the successful social engagement practices that go by the name of artivism there are the social justice actions that museums conduct with their own instruments. The aim of this paper is to highlight the virtuous or critical aspects that Milanese ecclesiastical museums have encountered in their role as actors engaged in the pursuit of such ends. The research is limited to an analysis of ecclesiastical museums since their social role appears more evident in that the owning institutions often have an explicit human promotion function among their statutory purposes. Instead, we focused on the case of Milan as a city where one in five inhabitants is foreign, which offers both happy examples of overlapping different cultures and dangerous instances of problems of social injustice.
