This chapter shows how the cultural and policy context relating to masculinities and fatherhood-related demographic trends shape the weak Italian fatherhood regime. While the concept of ‘new fatherhood’ is finding its way into Italian popular representations of fatherhood and appears to reflect a real change in family behaviours associated with generational changes in gendered attitudes, the extent of social change in Italy may be slower than the public debates and policies suggest or assume.

Abstract
This chapter shows how the cultural and policy context relating to masculinities and fatherhood-related demographic trends shape the weak Italian fatherhood regime. While the concept of ‘new fatherhood’ is finding its way into Italian popular representations of fatherhood and appears to reflect a real change in family behaviours associated with generational changes in gendered attitudes, the extent of social change in Italy may be slower than the public debates and policies suggest or assume.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
