La rivoluzione neoliberale in Europa: un nuovo oggetto della critica dopo il 1989

The collapse of the Berlin Wall is the symbol of a new era. For left-wing culture - a category taken up by Enzo Traverso - it represents a defeat, which forces it to rethink the conceptual repertoire on the basis of which it critiques the existing order. The focus on the specifically neo-liberal dimension of political capitalism after 1989 is, in my view, one of the main expressions of the renewal of left-wing criticism. Pierre Bourdieu was one of the first intellectuals to thematise it, investigating its workings at the European level. In the framework of the rethinking of left-wing criticism after 1989, his analysis represents an important stage, the questioning of which allows us to problematise, even today, two fundamental questions: the profile of Europe after 1989 and the conditions of possibility for a new left-wing criticism in it.
