Peripheral neighbourhood has drastically changed over time taking different meanings. The work will look particularly at two different definitions: social periphery and geographical periphery. Indeed, the term peripheral neighbourhood can identify an urban phenomenon that analyses the notion of social exclusion into the spatial term, and looks at the condition of poverty as an urban question. The current debate with the term peripheral neighbourhood means those areas/zones of the city with a high concentration of people living in social exclusion. In other words, areas where the condition of the residents goes beyond the economic condition of poverty to embrace also the lack of political rights and citizenship. Second, if we consider with the term peripheral neighbourhood, the physical distance of a place from the centre, it can be argued that in reality the peripheries on most of the European cities are also undergoing a process of transformation: turning into strategic areas.

Abstract
Second, if we consider with the term peripheral neighbourhood, the physical distance of a place from the centre, it can be argued that in reality the peripheries on most of the European cities are also undergoing a process of transformation: turning into strategic areas.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
