Cognitive-behavioural psychotherapy today is strictly evidence-based in its approach. Research, in fact, now constitutes a fundamental part of the therapeutic process and is present throughout all phases, from the initial identification of the fulcrum of a cognitive anomaly to the evaluation of the cognitive treatments. Each phase is an interdependent link in a single, unified chain. Authors such as Clark, Fairburn and Shafran have published a number of evidence-based studies in recent years. The situation in Italy, however, is still stagnant, with the tendency to refer to experience to justify the nature of one's interventions rather than verify scientifically the efficacy of the treatments used.
