This work is a part of the RICLIC – WARM (Regional Impact of Climatic Change in Lombardy Water Resources: modelling and applications) research project. The aim of the project is to develop a scientific methodology to evaluate climatic impacts on water resources of Lombardy region. First of all, according to a sustainable water resources management, it is important to estimate available water volume and its distribution to compare it with the anthropic water requirement. This study explains how groundwater volumes have been calculated in the Milano province. First of all, stratigraphic logs have been considered and converted in effective porosity; then, this porosity values have been interpolated according to a 3D-grid. The pores volume is equal to the water potentially stored in the aquifer. Piezometric surface, in different years, is necessary to calculate the aquifer saturated thickness and the available water really stored in the aquifer. In the Milano province, interpolated effective porosity ranges from 12% to 27% and the stored water volume ranges from about 34 to about 37 billions of m3. For this analysis, a lot of stratigraphic data and piezometric data are necessary.
