The transition from kinship to relatedness is closely linked to the anthropological study of gender, body, reproduction and care, medical knowledge, migration, religion, politics, ethics, and aesthetics. In this introduction, we will focus on some of the main debates in recent kinship studies: the relationship between demographic and kinship transitions; alternative forms of kinship and relatedness – such as adoption, matrifocality, queer kinship or kin making among people living in the same house –; stratified reproduction and relatedness; ways of seeing, representing, and imagining kin ties; the intertwining of kinship and religion; and the future of kinship.

Abstract
The transition from kinship to relatedness is closely linked to the anthropological study of gender, body, reproduction and care, medical knowledge, migration, religion, politics, ethics, and aesthetics. In this introduction, we will focus on some of the main debates in recent kinship studies: the relationship between demographic and kinship transitions; alternative forms of kinship and relatedness – such as adoption, matrifocality, queer kinship or kin making among people living in the same house –; stratified reproduction and relatedness; ways of seeing, representing, and imagining kin ties; the intertwining of kinship and religion; and the future of kinship.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
