Social cognition is an evolving field which has begun to reveal the intricacy of socialinteraction between humans and others. It depends on the understanding of one's ownself, other beings and the social world. The frontal lobes are considered to play a uniquerole in high level cognitive functions which subserve this extremely complex humanbehaviour.Recent research has shed light on how social cognitive processes and relatedexecutive functions are mediated through several neural networks involving frontalneural regions. This chapter discusses these functions with relation to emerging evidenceon the basis of anatomical and functional areas of the human frontal lobes.

Abstract

Social cognition is an evolving field which has begun to reveal the intricacy of socialinteraction between humans and others. It depends on the understanding of one's ownself, other beings and the social world. The frontal lobes are considered to play a uniquerole in high level cognitive functions which subserve this extremely complex humanbehaviour.Recent research has shed light on how social cognitive processes and relatedexecutive functions are mediated through several neural networks involving frontalneural regions. This chapter discusses these functions with relation to emerging evidenceon the basis of anatomical and functional areas of the human frontal lobes.
