The anthropological debate on morals and moralities, recently revived by the discussion on the notion of moral economy, oscillates between reluctance and dis- comfort. The relationship between anthropology and moral seems characterised by a paradox: moral issues are seen with suspicion by anthropologists, while these same issues are at the very core of their discipline and its methodological praxis of ethnography. This text retraces the elements of this heuristic paradox and its double source, epistemological and historical, observing how anthropologists dealt and are dealing with the empirical study of local and global moralities.

Abstract
The anthropological debate on morals and moralities, recently revived by the discussion on the notion of moral economy, oscillates between reluctance and dis- comfort. The relationship between anthropology and moral seems characterised by a paradox: moral issues are seen with suspicion by anthropologists, while these same issues are at the very core of their discipline and its methodological praxis of ethnography. This text retraces the elements of this heuristic paradox and its double source, epistemological and historical, observing how anthropologists dealt and are dealing with the empirical study of local and global moralities.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
