This review praises the editors of the book as they show through concrete cases, the importance of territory in India, proposing the adoption of a notion of territory that also implies the notion of identity. The importance of territory is shown not only in the definition and regulation of social, political and religious relations in the Indian subcontinent, but also as a category having an explicit cognitive value. The review presents an account of each of the contributions to the book.
