This is the report of the workshop "The State of Religion in a Non-Religious State: Discourses and practices in the secular republic of Nepal" convened by Dr. Chiara Letizia and Prof. David Gellner at the University of Oxford on 7-8 July 2012. The report starts with a reflection on secularism, political and religious change in contemporary Nepal,and addresses some of the issues that were proposed to the participants: the role of religion for the Maoists,the activism against sacrifice, the outbreak of possession, the spread of New Religious Movements. Then speakers are introduced and the core elements of their papers are presented.
