The present work discusses the Riemann problem for the p-system at a junction. Two different approaches are presented. The former is shown not to allow a well posed framework for the Cauchy problem. The latter is shown to be a good candidate to become the basic building block for the modeling of isentropic fluid flows in elbows, junctions and networks.

Abstract
