The Iterative Monte Carlo method for the simulation of the presheath of an object immersed in a plasma has been implemented on the Cray T3D massively parallel computer. Two different approaches are discussed, and it is shown that both yield good performance as the number of processing elements grows. Simulations for the case of a plasma moving along the magnetic field are presented and compared to an existing analytical model.

Abstract

The Iterative Monte Carlo method for the simulation of the presheath of an object immersed in a plasma has been implemented on the Cray T3D massively parallel computer. Two different approaches are discussed, and it is shown that both yield good performance as the number of processing elements grows. Simulations for the case of a plasma moving along the magnetic field are presented and compared to an existing analytical model.
