Aqueous gels formed by the Cr+3 crosslinking of partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamides (HPAAm) are the subject of intensive investigation for their possible applications in the field of petroleum production. The UV and EPR spectroscopic studies of the Cr+3/HPAAm reaction reported here are compared with previous studies and lead to a new, comprehensive picture of the gelation reaction mechanism.

Abstract

Aqueous gels formed by the Cr+3 crosslinking of partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamides (HPAAm) are the subject of intensive investigation for their possible applications in the field of petroleum production. The UV and EPR spectroscopic studies of the Cr+3/HPAAm reaction reported here are compared with previous studies and lead to a new, comprehensive picture of the gelation reaction mechanism.
