The aim of this article is to focus on the circumstances that may explain lone mother's poverty in Italy. In order to appreciate its peculiarities, the study of the Italian case will be developed comparatively, by taking into account two other European examples, Germany and Great Britain, which are both characterized by significant diversities in their resource-distribution systems (family, labour market, and welfare). The data used to analyse lone mothers' poverty dynamics are household panel surveys: ECHP, SHIW, BHPS, GSOEP.
