Abstract

The hydrogeological modelling approach represents a powerful investigation tool in water resources management. GFLOW 2000 (Haitjema Software, 2000) is a groundwater flow simulation software which features conjunctive surface water and groundwater modelling, evaluating the magnitude and direction of water exchanges between streams and water table. Applied to a 1200 km2 wide area in the Po Plain (N Italy), different scenarios have been simulated and the obtained results, in terms of discharge potential, represent a good source of information concerning volume of water involved in the mass balance of the system. The model could be used for further predictive analyses.
