This book uses comparative perspectives to explore diverse educational and related approaches towards developing forms of masculinity that offer more to the lives of women, children and men themselves. Such developments are sought in the context of global societies which, taken as a whole, are characterised by widespread gendered and other intersecting dimensions of oppression. These developments are also occurring in response to contemporary gendered and other social challenges, many of them related to globalising processes, including: • developing formations of femininities and masculinities: • changes in men’s attitudes and/or behaviours regarding work, including caring work, in the home and the labour market; • transformations in conceptualisations and practices of parenting, for instance relating to “lone parenthood”, lesbian, gay and trans-parenting; • racialising practices in communities and societies; • changing patterns and forms of men’s sexualities and violences.
