A checklist of the triggerfishes (Pisces: Balistidae) is presented. The list includes: 183 nominal species grouped in 41 valid species belonging to 12 genera; 28 nomina nuda; 8 nominal species which are recognized in this study to belong to a different family of fishes. Some 22 nominal species are in this study regarded as new synonyms.
