A fractional equation describing relaxation phenomena in complex viscoelastic materials is derived by employing a formal analogy between linear viscoelasticity and difusion in a disordered structure. From this analogy, a power-law relaxation follows which is in agreement with experimental results obtained in many complex viscoelastic materials. © 1992.
