Abstract

Electron spin resonance was successfully used to characterize the Cu(II) chelating properties of 4-demethoxy-6(11)-deoxy-6(11)-amino daunorubicins. [p ]The C6NH2 group of 6-amino daunorubicin coordinates Cu(II) yielding a mononuclear complex, while 11-amino daunorubicin forms a polymeric (CuL)n derivative, with both C11NH2 and C6OH coordinated to the metal. The tendency of both the amino substituted anthracyclines to undergo molecular stacking in the presence of Cu(II) is discussed. © 1990.
