ROBÓTICA E INTELIGENCIA ARTIFICIAL: RETOS PARA EL DERECHO

The paper deals with ethical-legal issues arising from advances in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. It will investigate the challenges that those bioethical frontier issues pose to legal categories and institutions focusing on the proposal of attributing e-personality to robots with autonomous and self-learning abilities. It will highlight the relation between the legal institution of legal personality in civil law and the meaning and understanding of the concept of person as developed by modern constitutionalism. It will argue that attribution of legal personality to robots requires an in-depth conceptual analysis of the meaning of different intertwined legal concepts like person, autonomy, freedom, responsibility, and equality as well as of the values underpinning the European legal system based on fundamental rights.
