The labrid fish Pteragogus flagellifer, popularly known as cocktail wrasse, is recorded from the Red Sea based on the original description of Labrus ramentosus by Forsskal (1775) from a collection at al-Mukha, Yemen. Because Forsskal's type is not extant and no other specimens of the species are known from the Red Sea, his description has long been disregarded. we propose thet the name Labrus ramentosus be suppressed to conserve the well-established Pteragogus flagellifer.

Abstract
The labrid fish Pteragogus flagellifer, popularly known as cocktail wrasse, is recorded from the Red Sea based on the original description of Labrus ramentosus by Forsskal (1775) from a collection at al-Mukha, Yemen. Because Forsskal's type is not extant and no other specimens of the species are known from the Red Sea, his description has long been disregarded. we propose thet the name Labrus ramentosus be suppressed to conserve the well-established Pteragogus flagellifer.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
