Spaesamenti, formazione dei docenti alla competenza interculturale e fiducia nelle scuole

In the last twenty-five years, in Italy, many professional figures have increased confidence in intercultural thinking in education. This helped the pathways of schooling and life of many students and has made Italian society grow, not just the school. Today the socio-political climate is confused and in a process of transformation. It is difficult to predict which directions it will take. What we know for sure (as teachers) is that over the last few months, messages opposed to the construction of intercultural thought have become frequent, to the point that it can exert a negative influence on the training of minds of adult citizens and especially of children. Also for this reason, it is even more necessary today to enhance the positive situations that have been built through education, in which cohesion exists, to propose them as possible examples for others. The essay reports some passages of a training course on intercultural competence which involved a group of teachers from an high school in the difficult task of knowing the complex area where the children live, then to transfer to the school, in teaching, the real data learned. The professionalism of teachers in multi-ethnic classes must be built in an individual and committed manner. The path of this research/training conducted showed that for teachers just the action of travel in the territories close to the school, stopping, talking and interviewing the inhabitants of the neighborhood can be an intentional way to get closer to the spaces of life of the students and to educate themselves.
