Starting from 1998, the World Heritage Committee has inscribed some « railway properties » in the World Heritage List. An outstanding universal value has been recognized to the Semmering railway (Austria), to the mountain railways of India (Darjeeling and Nilgiri) and to the Chhatrapati Terminus, formely Victoria Terminus, of Mumbai (India). Other «railway properties» may found in the tentative lists presented by some States.
