Image indexing and retrieval using spatial chromatic histograms and signatures is discussed. An innovative image retrieval algorithm was introduced that takes into account spatial information in a flexible way without increasing the computation cost. Spatial chromatic histogram matching was compared with more standard techniques based on human perceptual judgments to demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithms.
