Electrical conductivity measurements on 'pure' and KCl-doped BaCl2 were performed in the temperature range 25-800°C, and activation energies were calculated. Using solid-state galvanic cells, the ionic transference number of the 0.995BaCl2-0.005KCl electrolyte was found to have an average value of 0.99. Further, a preliminary investigation was carried out to determine the thermodynamic data of the following reaction: Pb(s) + Cl2(g)⇋PbCl2(s), which showed that the standard free energy of formation of PbCl2 was: ΔG° (J/mol) = - 356 171 + 144.66T (K)±628. © 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. Abstract
