The aim of the paper is to contribute to the historical onomastic studies through the analysis of an inventory of proper nouns of the sixteenth century from the city of Ancona. The goal of this paper is twofold: on the one hand, it aims to describe the different types of proper nouns, focusing on those to be considered most relevant from a quantitative and theoretical point of view; on the other hand, a portrait of the city from the linguistic and historical point of view will be provided
