In recent years, the bioethical and biolegal debate has paid increasing attention to the use of drugs and of biomedical technologies not for therapeutic purposes but to enhance healthy individuals: to modify and/or augment existing psycho-physical characteristics, or to create new ones. A relevant part of the debate has been dedicated to human enhancement for moral purposes. After referring to the main arguments of proponents of human enhancement, the introduction underlines that the papers of Laura Palazzani, Silvia Salardi and Federico Pizzetti propose a useful analysis both to correctly frame the phenomenon from a theoretical viewpoint and to consider its wider implications for individual lives and for the model of society that the diffusion of bioenhancement may contribute to shaping
