Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze the diagnostic options currently available for evaluating the anatomical relation between the inferior alveolar nerve and apical roots and/or roots of the inferior third molars. Materials and methods: We applied this diagnostic criterion to two clinical cases with the aid of a stereolitografic prototype. Results and conclusions: Our experience confirms the data found in the literature, which show that a thorough first-level radiological examination, such as OPT, can often eliminate the need for more invasive second-level studies. © 2010 Elsevier Sri.
