The intention of the authors is to analyze the prognostic aspects of abdominal aneurysms of the aorta in 181 patients over seventy years old. The incidence of the aneurysmatic pathology in aged patients is high (almost 30% of the aneurysmatic population observed: 654 patients). Very significant is the percentage of the ruptured aneurysms observed and operated on as an emergency (almost 40%). The mortality rate for elective operation is double (14%) that of the same operation performed on other ages; the mortality among emergency cases is also very high (> 60%)

Abstract

The intention of the authors is to analyze the prognostic aspects of abdominal aneurysms of the aorta in 181 patients over seventy years old. The incidence of the aneurysmatic pathology in aged patients is high (almost 30% of the aneurysmatic population observed: 654 patients). Very significant is the percentage of the ruptured aneurysms observed and operated on as an emergency (almost 40%). The mortality rate for elective operation is double (14%) that of the same operation performed on other ages; the mortality among emergency cases is also very high (> 60%)
