Moving from a theoretical framework of action science, these authors propose a model community-oriented intervention to prevent and contain traumatic reactions in children exposed to war and military violence. Of critical importance was the involvement of all social actors from the beginning of the intervention. Their devotion to the growth and protection of the children allowed for the development of a safe environment in which the children were able to deal with critical events and difficult conditions, consequences of the military occupation. This model was implemented with 500 Palestinian children of the Tulkarm Region (West Bank). Results and future directions are discussed.
