A possible interpretation of Demetrio Neri's contribution to bioethical endof- life issues is one that highlights the inseparable connection between dignity that has to be guaranteed to any individual until the end of her life and the recognition of and respect for her autonomy. Informed consent and advance directives are useful tools for implementing autonomy, but according to Neri, also for recognizing to individuals without hope of recovering from suffering of the right to obtain euthanasia. In this paper, the author agrees with almost all of Neri's positions except for his opinion that there is equivalence between palliative sedation and euthanasia.

Abstract
A possible interpretation of Demetrio Neri's contribution to bioethical endof- life issues is one that highlights the inseparable connection between dignity that has to be guaranteed to any individual until the end of her life and the recognition of and respect for her autonomy. Informed consent and advance directives are useful tools for implementing autonomy, but according to Neri, also for recognizing to individuals without hope of recovering from suffering of the right to obtain euthanasia. In this paper, the author agrees with almost all of Neri's positions except for his opinion that there is equivalence between palliative sedation and euthanasia.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
