The Tribunal of Milan, in its award of 20 April 2017, upheld the legality of the decision of Lombardy Region which forbids the access to public buildings to persons with clothes hindering their identification. The aim of the regional decision was to restrict the free circulation of muslim women wearing «burqa» and/or «niqab»: as such, the decision heralds the priority of public security needs over freedom of religion.
