Beginning from an analysis of the scholarship on the linguistics and semiology of Pasolini’s cinema, Pinzolo invites us not to read the opposition of “nature” and “history” in a naïve way, as the opposition of the modern and the primitive, the natural. Instead, it is modernity itself that constitutes the primitive, as a residue, a survival or leftover, a multiplicity of strata of surpassed civilisation.
