In this paper, the articles published in the academic social science journal Polis between 2012 and 2017 are analyzed in terms of authorship pattern, authors' affiliation, research topic, methodological approach, and usage impact factor. Analyses show that, during the period at hand, Polis has been characterized by an openness to a wide range of scholars, a lively exchange with the international scientific community, an increasing number of collaborative works, a large variety of research topics, an equal openness to quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods, and a slowly but constantly increasing usage impact factor. Alongside these positive aspects, the analysis also reveals some occasional weaknesses in the way authors defined or implemented their research design. The paper concludes with some reflections on the current state of peer review and its problems
