The paper will outline a distinction between a syncretistic, and merely wishful, interpretation of the exchanges between different disciplines and a discovery-based interpretation of the role of interdisciplinarity in contemporary natural sciences. Some examples from the two sides are proposed, focusing on cases of constitutively interdisciplinary research programmes. The discussion underlines the still up-to-date methodological characteristics of systemic and integrated approaches.

Abstract
The paper will outline a distinction between a syncretistic, and merely wishful, interpretation of the exchanges between different disciplines and a discovery-based interpretation of the role of interdisciplinarity in contemporary natural sciences. Some examples from the two sides are proposed, focusing on cases of constitutively interdisciplinary research programmes. The discussion underlines the still up-to-date methodological characteristics of systemic and integrated approaches.File in questo prodotto:
