Moving from a reflection on the ideological bias concerning the alleged utopian character of anarchism, this essay takes into account some of the most significant historical applications of "free communism". Ranging form the Paris Commune to the Kronstadt Republic, from the Ukrainian Machnovscina to the Spanish anarchist revolution, it then focuses on the "Colonia Cecilia", a community based on libertarian ideals that was established in Brazil in the late 19th century. Founded by Italian anarchist Giovanni Rossi, Colonia Cecilia thrived for about four years, garnering more than 250 members
